following steps:
* Exit from all other programs and restart the program
* Temporarily disable your screensaver
* Increase the amount of free space on your system hard drive
You may also pull the contents of the Data directory from the CD onto
your Hard Drive after you have installed the application. This will
disable print, save, mail, feedback, and exit functionality, however,
you may access all HTML based functionality this way. To do so, copy
the Data Directory to your computer, open the data directory, and
double click on main.html. This will open the files for you.
Troubleshooting Tips
--------------------
Installation Troubleshooting
----------------------------
If you are having trouble running the installation portion of the
program, you may not have the access privileges required to run the
application. Try logging out and logging in as the system
administrator. You may need to speak with your IT staff about
obtaining the proper permissions to do so.
If you make it halfway through the install before encountering access privilege problems, do the following:
*uninstall the applications that have installed. A list of these applications is available on the CD Insert.
*delete the NEA_WOD.ini and flash cookie files from your hard drive.
*The easiest way to find these files is to use the search tool in the start directory (PC) or Cmd-F(Mac).
*Restart your computer.
*Log In with administrative privileges.
*Reinstall the software
If the system crashes or freezes during install, do the following:
*uninstall the applications that have installed. A list of these applications is available on the CD Insert.
*delete the NEA_WOD.ini and flash cookie files from your hard drive.
*The easiest way to find these files is to use the search tool in the start directory (PC) or Cmd-F(Mac).
*Restart your computer.
*Log In with administrative privileges.
*Reinstall the software
Print/Mail/Save Troubleshooting
-------------------------------
Print/Mail/Save can work slowly on certain computer/browser configurations. After you click the button, give the system a few seconds to perform the operation. If the operation has not completed within 20 seconds, try again. Note that printing happens in the background - you do not have to click an OK prompt, the system will simply print for you.
If you are clicking the print, save, or mail buttons and they are never
working, it is possible that the shockwave installation was pointed to
the wrong browser. To correct this, perform the following tasks:
*Uninstall the flash and shockwave applications off of your machine
*Then delete the NEA_WOD.ini and flashcookie files from your hard drive.
*The easiest way to find these files is to use the search tool in the start directory (PC) or Cmd-F(Mac).
*Restart your computer.
*Reinstall the software.
*Check to be sure that you are running the latest version of internet explorer - Version 6.0.2800.1106.
*Please be sure that you are choosing the correct
browser for plug in install when the flash and shockwave installers ask.
If you are clicking the print, save, or mail buttons and they are not
working consistently or you are getting an error message, please try
clicking the button again. If this does not work, or you are seeing the problem repeatedly, see the above set of instructions to uninstall and reinstall the program.
Page Rendering Troubleshooting
----------------------------------------
After installation, if the page is loading, but you do not see the
fly-out navigation in the upper left hand corner of the screen, resize
the screen and it will draw in.
If it appears that the entire page is not loading in, try refreshing
the page. Press Shift-Cmd-R and that will refresh the page for you. On
PCs, you may press F11 and this will show you the refresh button.
If certain images are not loading in, try right clicking (Crtl-click on the mac) on the image, and then selecting the 'load image' option.
If page elements are still not loading in, try copying the contents of
the CD onto your hard drive. The print/save/mail functionality will
not work, but you will be able to access the HTML portions of the site
much faster.
Adobe Acrobat Troubleshooting on Mac OS 9
-----------------------------------------
If you are having difficulty rendering your PDF files in Macintosh OS
9, you need to configure internet explorer to open PDF files within the
browser.
*First, test to see if your browser can handle PDFs. Drag a .pdf file
into a browser window to see if it will render properly.
NOTE: Use the following configuration instructions only if your PDF
PLUGIN TEST failed to open a PDF document in the Macintosh version of
Internet Explorer.
* After the Acrobat Reader installation program has run, a folder
called ACROBAT READER is placed on your hard drive. Find it. It may be
labeled with the version of the Reader you downloaded from Adobe.
* Inside the Acrobat Reader folder is another folder called WEB BROWSER
PLUG-IN.
* Open it and you will find a plug-in called PDFViewer (ignore the
Netscape logo attached to the icon...it works just fine in Internet
Explorer).
* This plug-in needs to be moved into Internet Explorer's own PLUG INS
folder.
* Locate the Internet Explorer folder on your hard drive. When you have
found the icon for the Internet Explorer application, you will also see
the Plug-ins folder.
* Drag the PDFViewer you located earlier into this Plug-ins folder.
* Launch Internet Explorer. You now need to associate PDF files with
the PDFViewer. This is the specific instruction that Internet Explorer
has been waiting for. Follow these instructions.
* From the Internet Explorer menu item EDIT in the upper left portion
of your screen, select PREFERENCES. A PREFERENCES window will open with
many selectable options.
* In the left hand column, scroll down until you find the heading
RECEIVING FILES and open it to reveal its options. Click on FILE
HELPERS. On the right, a list of all the various file types you may
encounter when browsing on the Web is displayed. It's impressive.
* Scroll down the list of file types to reach the "P" section. Find the
application type entitled Portable Document Format that has the
extension of ".pdf " and highlight this item. To tell Internet Explorer
how to open PDF documents, click the CHANGE button.
* A window opens up entitled EDIT FILE HELPER. Ignore everything except
for the bottom section labeled HANDLING.
* Next to the option "How to handle," select from the pull-down list
"View with Plug-in." Then click the BROWSE button to locate the
PDFViewer plug-in you copied into Internet Explorer's Plug-ins folder.
Once you've located and selected the PDFViewer plug-in, click OK. You
are returned to the window EDIT FILE HELPER. Confirm that next to the
part labeled "Plug in name" is PDFViewer. Click the OK button. Then
from the PREFERENCES window, click its OK button.
Now whenever Internet Explorer encounters a PDF file that you link to,
it will automatically open in your browser window with the PDFViewer.

Video Troubleshooting Tips
--------------------------
The NEA Wisdom On Demand CD-ROM was designed to run best at 32 bit
color or better. Use the Display or Monitor Control Panel to reset your
display to 32 bit color for best results. If you experience display
problems with your monitor set to 32 bit color, it may be time to
update your video card driver. Most vendors post free driver updaters
on their Web sites or electronic bulletin boards. Some PC video card
setups are not optimized for playing QuickTime, Apple's digital video
technology. On these computers you may find that sound and video in
the video clips on the CD do not seem to be in synch, or that the
video plays jerkily. You may be able to get better performance by
adjusting the Video and Audio Settings in the QuickTime Control Panel.
Click the Help button on the Video and Audio screens of the Control
Panel for advice from Apple on adjusting your settings. If you do not
see any video at all, then QuickTime is probably not installed properly
on your computer.
If you are using Mac OS9 and you cannot see the videos at all, you need
to increase the amount of memory available to the browser. To do this,
follow these steps:
* Locate your browser icon in the finder
* Single click on the browser icon to highlight it
* Select Get Info (Cmd - I)
* Select the Memory Requirements from the drop down
* Change the Minimum Requirements to 32468k
* Change the Preferred Requirements to 33000k
Sound Tips
----------------
The program was designed to run best on a PC system with a fully
SoundBlaster compatible sound card. If you hear distorted sound or the
sound drops out completely on a PC system, and you are certain that
your sound card is SoundBlaster compatible, it may be time to update
your sound card driver. Most vendors post free driver updaters on their
web sites or electronic bulletin boards. If you do not hear sound at
all, try quitting all other programs that may be running. If another
program -- especially a game -- has control of the sound card,"The
Future of Higher Education" may not be able to play sound until the
